Soccer Gear List For Kids
Some of the best memories kids make are those with their teammates during sports games and practices. There is nothing like it!
If your little one is ready to play soccer there are a few things they’ll need before their first practice. Below is a youth soccer gear list so you can get prepared for the upcoming season.
Soccer Gear List For Kids
1. Cleats
Choosing a comfortable pair of soccer cleats is SO important! Our kids have been wearing this brand from Walmart for years. They’re easy to get on and they hold up well.
We love this brand because they’re high quality while still being really affordable. Kids outgrow their clothes and shoes so fast, so being able to find a pair that doesn’t break the bank is great.
Tip: Your child will be wearing thick soccer socks underneath their cleats. If you feel that they are between sizes, consider going up to the larger size.
2. Shinguards
Just like cleats, wearing shinguards is a requirement to get on the soccer field. They help to keep them safe and come in peewee, youth, and adult sizes.
Here’s the pair we grabbed for this year.
3. Soccer Socks
Typically, kids will be given soccer socks for games that match the color of the team jersey. However, your little one will also need to wear soccer socks for practice as well. This pair is under $10.
Don’t be shocked at how long they are! They are meant to cover their shinguards to keep them in place.
4. Soccer Ball
For games, the referees (or coach) will bring a ball but for practices, players are usually asked to bring their own. Additionally, it’s great to have a ball at home for extra practice and play.
Just be sure to grab the correct size. Depending on the age, the size of the soccer ball will vary. Walmart has a wide range of soccer ball sizes.
5. Soccer Practice Shorts
A comfortable pair of shorts is a must and having a stockpile of neutrals makes it easy to get ready quickly.
6. Soccer Practice T-Shirt
Just like shorts, you’ll need some T-shirts for practice. Solids and neutrals make it easy to mix and match.
7. Water Bottle
A water bottle is a must! Soccer involves high amounts of running and staying hydrated is important. If you think your child will want to throw their water bottle in their soccer bag, a leakproof bottle is the way to go.
8. Soccer Backpack
Between the shinguards, socks, ball, water bottle, and any extras the kids bring to games and practices, a backpack is always helpful.
This backpack is great because it has a dedicated compartment for cleats, a section for a ball, water bottle pockets, plus a traditional backpack compartment for all other belongings.
9. Soccer Ball Pump
At some point, your soccer ball will likely need some air. Having a pump is handy and this one is universal so you can use it for other sports equipment as well.
10. Soccer Net
While a soccer net at home isn’t a necessity, it’s great for the kids who love to play both competitively as well as just for fun.
While there are a few other helpful items to have (like additional clothing depending where you live, sweatshirts, sweatpants, etc.), this list above is all you’ll need to get started!
If you’re in need of gear for other sports as well, be sure to check out Walmart where you’ll find equipment for many different sports including soccer, football, lacrosse, and more at incredible prices.
Hopefully, this soccer equipment list has helped prepare you for the fun season ahead.
