It is officially romper season, and I can’t wait to start pulling out all my rompers and jumpsuits that I have for the summer.

They are just so easy to style because they eliminate some of the stress of having to find a top and a bottom that go together, plus they’re trendy!

But what is the difference between a jumpsuit and a romper?

The main difference when comparing these one-piece outfits is the leg length. A jumpsuit has full-length pants whereas rompers are shorts on the bottom.

They both come in different styles and different materials and make great additions to your wardrobe.

What is a Romper?

True rompers are basically a shirt attached to a pair of shorts to make a one-piece suit. They are popular for young children as well as adults.

Toddler rompers are super easy and cute for little girls to wear as they make changing very simple, and don’t even get me started on how cute baby rompers are!

Nowadays, rompers are even popular for boys, too.

Now, of course, rompers are not just for toddlers and babies! The best part about having a romper in your closet is that they are extremely versatile.

Rompers are the type of garment that can be great for casual attire but depending on the style can also be worn for dressier events. This makes them a great option for many occasions.

Whether you prefer a long sleeve romper, a short sleeve romper, or one with no straps/sleeves at all, there are plenty of styles out there to choose from.

And what is a romper with pants called?

A JUMPSUIT! Onto that next!

What is a Jumpsuit?

A jumpsuit, similar to a romper, is a one-piece outfit but instead of shorts, the bottom is an attached pair of pants (long pants are typical, but they can be capri length, too!)

When it comes to jumpsuits, you have endless options because you can choose a casual jumpsuit or even a dressier style (like this one) for formal occasions.

And just like a romper, there are jumpsuits with full-length sleeves, short sleeves, and no sleeves at all.

I don’t know about you, but having simple solid jumpsuits in my closet for those days that I just don’t feel like putting an outfit together is a must!

A wide leg jumpsuit paired with high heels is a great example of something you might wear as a wedding guest, while a casual cotton-style jumpsuit is great for everyday things like running errands or picking up the kids at school.

Romper vs Jumpsuit

The major difference when it comes to romper vs jumpsuit is the length of the bottoms attached. The key similarity is that they both make the perfect outfit for a night out or even brunch!

If you are going out in the hot summer weather, you may want to stick to the short pants option that the right romper will give you.

Alternatively, jumpsuits are the better option for colder weather as they offer more coverage (unless you choose a super sexy style of course)!

The. best thing about both of these pieces is that most styles can be both dressed up and dressed down.

Distinguishing Features

There are so many different types of jumpsuits and rompers out there.

As mentioned above, there are some with short sleeves and even long sleeves. Different styles may have a different cut of the pants such as wide legs, skinny legs, and a different pant length (capris, for example).

Pros and Cons of Rompers and Jumpsuits

Even with the most perfect rompers or jumpsuits, there are some pros and cons.

There are definitely some downsides to wearing a one-piece outfit as opposed to a two-piece combination of shorts or pants.

Shop Halter Romper

Pros of Rompers

  • If you are going on a trip, it is less to pack because it is just one piece.
  • You can dress them up with wedges or wear them casually with denim jackets for an everyday look.
  • Instead of having to buy both a top and bottoms, you get your whole outfit all in one which makes your shopping cart less expensive!
  • They are normally a lot less restrictive around the belly and legs so they can be the right fit for all different shapes.
  • Normally they are made with lightweight materials and a comfortable type of fabric.

Shop One Shoulder Jumpsuit

Pros of Jumpsuits

  • Very versatile and easy because you won’t have to worry about your outfit matching, it always will!
  • Come in all different styles like spaghetti straps and you can even get a sleeveless jumpsuit.
  • You can dress them up and even wear them to work.

Cons of Rompers & Jumpsuits

  • Even the most comfortable romper and jumpsuit can still give you a hassle when it comes to using the bathroom! You have to take the whole thing off which can be frustrating, especially if you’re in a hurry.
  • If you are wearing a romper or jumpsuit while out shopping for other clothes, you will also start to get annoyed to have to take it off every time you try something on.
  • They may not provide enough warmth for days when it is cold, so keep the weather in mind.

How to Choose the Right Romper or Jumpsuit For You

Are you looking for suspender-like straps, an off-the-shoulder romper, a floral romper, or a jumpsuit that is more professional or dressy?

There are so many different types to choose from! Here are some things to consider when choosing a romper or jumpsuit:

Consider body shape and size

I love jumpsuits and rompers because they are, for the most part, flowy and comfortable.

Most are great for all body types, especially pear-shaped bodies, and an hourglass body type, but this is definitely a must-try-on item to be sure the style of the specific romper or jumpsuit fits your body proportions well.

Choose a fabric and material that suits the occasion

Fabric and material really come into play when choosing the perfect romper.

For example, if you are going to the beach or to brunch with the girls, a cotton type of material is a good choice.

However, if you are attending formal events, you may want to pick a more professional style romper or jumpsuit with a cute pair of high heels.

Conclusion

To sum it up, both rompers and jumpsuits are a type of one-piece garment consisting of a blouse or top connected to pants or shorts.

The length of the bottom part is the main difference between a romper vs jumpsuit.

Just remember that the fabric and material really come into play when choosing the perfect romper or jumpsuit.

For example, if you are going to the beach or to brunch with the girls, a cotton type of material is a good choice.

However, if you are attending formal events, you may want to pick a more professional style romper or jumpsuit in a viscose/linen/elastane blend.
