11 (Easy To Implement) Swimsuit Organization Ideas
It’s almost pool party and beach season, which means it’s time to snag that new swimsuit you’ve been eyeing up and organize your current collection of swimsuits!
But If you want to keep your bathing suits in pristine condition, it’s important to organize them properly.
Today, we’re sharing 10 swimsuit organization ideas so you can easily find the swimsuits you need while also keeping your stockpile in great shape.
There is no “best way” to store your swimwear collection, but there are many great ways! Some of these ways also work great for storing other small items like hair accessories, bras and underwear, too.
11 Simple Swimsuit Organization Ideas
Check out this list of ways to store swimsuits, whether you have a little or a lot of space!
Shop Foldable Fabric Storage Bags
Fabric storage bags
Yes, you could store your swimsuits in zip lock bags to keep them organized but fabric storage bags are much cuter (and more environmentally friendly.)
You can see what fabric storage bag you already have, or buy a new bag(s) to ensure you have enough.
Drawer dividers
When it comes to storage solutions, it seems the most logical is to put our swimsuits in our drawers.
When we do that, we don’t have to create more storage space or take up too much space elsewhere.
However, just throwing all your bathing suits into one drawer is messy and makes finding what you’re looking for difficult.
I also don’t want to simply throw high-quality swimsuits into my drawer where they can get tangled and damaged.
It is much easier to find the exact location of each swimsuit when you have them all separated with dividers.
Create your own Swimsuit station
If you have more swim gear than just bathing suits, a good idea is to create a whole swim station.
A great place for this is next to a washing machine or in a laundry room.
Instead of having laundry bags piled up, you can create a nice-and-neat station with wire cubes.
The best part? You can design this however you would like!
The first step would be to create a section dedicated to your swimsuits. You could even make one for your bikini tops and another for bikini bottoms.
After that, you could create shelves for beach towels, one-piece swimsuits, sunscreen, and any other summer item you regularly use.
Everyone may have different methods of creating a station depending on their needs.
However, I highly recommend this option because it makes you fully prepared, especially if you throw your own pool party. Everything will be super easy to find.
Bonus tip: You could even turn your DIY station into something else for the colder months, such as holding mittens, gloves, scarves, and hats.
Create a swimsuit rack above your normal closet rack
If you are on the taller side, you could add a clothing rod above your current one that goes across your closet.
Hanging your swimsuits here makes them easily accessible, but still keeps them out of the way of your everyday wardrobe items.
This is also a great way to organize. You can have your bathing suits above your vacation outfits if you’re planning out your travel outfits.
This will give you easy access without having to find another storage space outside your closet, which gives great peace of mind if you live in a smaller space.
Shop Plastic Storage Bins With Lids
Plastic storage container
A plastic bin is a sure way to keep everything nice, neat, and safe.
If you can find one that’s airtight it also makes it much safer to store it in a basement or attic when you don’t need the items.
You could either choose a stackable plastic storage bin with a top like above or open clear plastic containers that you can store in the closet for easy-to-find organization.
Shoe organizer
A hanging shoe organizer can be used for so much more than shoes!
If you grab a clear shoe organizer, you could easily store your swimsuits on the back of the door.
This also helps when trying to choose what to wear. They are all together in an easy-to-see place.
Additionally, since it’s on the back of your door, it doesn’t take up any extra space!
It’s also a good way to create more storage without taking space away from the storage you already have.
Bonus tip: you can also place similar items in there. For example, this is also a great place to store sports bras.
Zip down bag
Another great way to save on space by using the back of your door is with a zip-down bag.
Most people think of these for suits, but you could easily put several bathing suits on a hanger and then zip it up.
It will keep them nice and secure and if anything happens to fall it will still be easy to find.
Shower hooks
Using just towel bars and shower hooks, you could create extra storage on any extra wall that you have.
Shop Fabric Storage Bins With Lids
Fabric Storage Bins
If you prefer to have something a bit more aesthetic you can never go wrong with a cute swimsuit storage box or bin.
With so many options out there today you’re bound to find one you like and many even come with labels and/or lids so you can write what contents are in the bin then close them up for even better organization.
Shop fabric storage bins with window
While most people find that the best ones to get are the ones with clear centers or a “window”, whichever style will actually keep you organized is the one you want to choose!
Drawer Organizers
Organizers for your drawers are one of the best ways to sort your swimsuits.
You can get them in all different sizes and shapes which makes it easy to make it fit perfectly for your space.
Mesh storage bags
While mesh bags won’t be the ideal way to organize bathing suits for long-term use at home, they are great for traveling and being on the go.
Also called wet bags, these are perfect for when you have to temporarily store wet swimsuits.
Different Ways To Store Swimsuits
How do you organize swimsuits?
Aside from using products that make organizing your swimsuits easier, there are also ways that you can easily group together bathing suits before physically storing them.
Here are a few of the simplest ways to do so:
By color
When you separate your bathing suits by colors, you will likely narrow down your search to just one or 1 or 2 places (depending on how many bathing suits you own of course).
For example, you can put all your white bathing suits into one pile, your black bathing suits into another, your printed suits into another, and so on and so forth.
This will obviously make it much easier to find the exact suit you’re looking for and alleviate the need to go digging through dozens of bathing suits.
Once you’ve created piles with all the different colors, simply store them in their respective bings/drawers/bags/etc.
By Style
If you enjoy wearing all different types of bathing suits and have a wide variety of styles, it might be a good idea to separate your collection by style.
Just as you would for separating by color, you’ll want to separate by style.
For example, you might end up with piles specifically for one-piece bathing suits, bikinis, bandeau tops, high-waisted bottoms, triangle bikini tops, etc.
By Occasion
Just because someone is a mom doesn’t mean they don’t want some spicy swimsuits, OKURRRRR!!!!!!
However, a swimsuit you might wear to let’s say an adults-only pool party or resort might not exactly be the bathing suit you’d choose for a day at the beach with the kids or for a kid’s water park.
If you find yourself often reaching for bathing suits based on the occasion, separating your suits this way would be your best bet!
Helpful Tips for Swimsuit Storage
- Never hang wet swimsuits!
I know we sometimes want to hang wet towels and other things when we come home, but hanging up wet swimsuits can actually change the shape of the suits.
Swimwear fabrics differ greatly from the fabric you’d typically find a piece of clothing made from.
- Always lay bathing suits flat to dry.
To keep them in good condition, you should always lay swimsuits flat to dry in an open spot such as on a drying rack (as opposed to your dresser drawer where it could grow mold), or outside on a flat surface.
- Steer clear of extreme temperatures.
Make sure to store your dry swimsuits in places that do not have extreme temperatures. For example, a garage is not a great place.
- Leave your swimsuits dry for a long enough period of time.
Leaving your suits out to dry for enough time will ensure they don’t retain any moisture and will help to prevent them from getting moldy.
- Consider rinsing out your bathing suit right after going into the pool.
There is less of a chance of chlorinated water affecting the swimwear fabric when you rinse it right away. This also works if you were swimming in salt water.
Conclusion
At the end of the day, the good news is that there are many ways to organize and store swimsuits.
What is going to be the easiest way for you to grab and put away your swimsuits on any given day? That’s the option you want to choose.
The less effort it takes, the more chance you have of actually keeping your swimsuits organized.
You may have to try one or two different storage ideas until you find your favorite but once you find the one that works best for you you’ll be happy you did it!
