Knee high boots can be worn a ton of different ways and with just a few simple tips you can create many beautiful looks. From street style looks to office-appropriate attire, there’s plenty of combinations that can work.

Prefer a flirtier vibe? Knee high boots look great with flounce skirts, bodycon dresses, and maxi dresses, just to name a few.

Throwing on a pair of knee high boots over jeans is one of my favorite ways to dress up an otherwise super casual everyday look.

A sweater or tucked-in top looks great with knee high boots and jeans for an effortless yet put-together outfit.

Looking for something a bit more dressed up yet not “dressy”? Throw on a nice bell sleeve blouse in a satin or silk material to add a little elegance.

Pairing knee high boots with jeans is the ultimate chic yet comfy outfit. If comfort is important to you, I recommend a boot with a block heel.

The suede knee-high boots I’m wearing above are the best boots I’ve ever had. The neutral color makes them super versatile and they have a chunky block heel which makes them extremely comfortable.

Sadly, this exact pair is no longer available, but I’ve linked several similar options below.

Oversized blazers are so in right now and they work perfectly with tall boots. You could easily style an oversized blazer with a midi skirt and flat knee-high boots for the office, or with blue jeans and a tee for a more casual look.

Wondering what to wear with knee boots for going out? It might sound like an odd combination, but pairing a romper with knee high boots can sometimes work!

This may look like a sweater dress but it’s actually a long sleeve chunky knit romper and it’s perfect for a fall or winter date night.

Since I wanted to wear this romper during the winter months, I paired it with my favorite pair of suede boots to balance it out and it ended up being a great combination.

This is a great outfit idea for going out in the winter if you live in a cooler climate. It’s still dressed up but not overly dressy and it’s a great option for a date night or girls’ night out.

It doesn’t matter what body type you have, anyone can wear knee high boots. The key is to style them with pieces that create balance. Even if you’re a short girl you can still wear tall boots.

I’m not super short, but I’m also not tall, so I’m always conscious about the items I pair with taller boots. Here’s a perfect example of how someone on the shorter side can style boots with leggings for the office.

An elegant sweater paired with high-quality leggings can be work-appropriate as long as the items aren’t ill-fitting.

All Black Look With A Pop Of Color

If you prefer monochromatic looks you could wear the outfit above with a pair of black knee-high boots or opt for a pair in a contrasting shade as I did.

Knee high boots come in all different colors so by wearing an all-black outfit you have an almost unlimited selection of colors to choose from.

It’s just as easy to style your boots in an appropriate way for the workplace as it is for a night out. Here are a few  styling ideas for the office:

  • Pair your boots with a long ribbed knit maxi dress
  • Layer over leggings with a tunic top
  • With a maxi skirt and a nice blouse
  • With straight leg jeans and a chambray top
  • With a pencil skirt and blouse
  • With leggings, a tunic tank, and a blazer

Adding layers always helps to create a more conservative/modest outfit.

If you’re wondering what to wear with high boots so that you don’t show too much skin, layering can definitely help with that.

Knee high boots with a dress or a mini skirt is a winning combo. It’s sexy yet still offers coverage so you get the best of both worlds.

I prefer mini skirts because I have short legs. However, if you have long legs and/or prefer a longer skirt, you can swap out the mini skirt for a midi skirt.

There are many different styles of dresses that work well with knee high boots but you can never go wrong with sweater dress.

This turtleneck-style dress is one of my all-time favorites and is so affordable. It also comes in a ton of colors.

A sexier dress style works just as well with knee high boots. Although this dress is a curve-hugging fit, it the rushing creates a nice balance.

If you think it might get chilly grab a black leather jacket to throw over your shoulders and you’re good to go.

How To Choose The Best Knee High Boots

Coming up with outfit ideas for knee high boots is only part of the process. Before you can begin to put outfits together you want to make sure that you have the right boots for your body.

Not to worry – there are plenty of knee high boots out there no matter what size or shape you are! From slouchy, boho styles to wide-leg riding boots, the options are almost endless.

Some of the different styles of knee high boots include :

  • Riding Boots
  • Stiletto Boots
  • Slouchy Boots
  • Motorcycle Boots
  • Corset Boots

Many of these boots also come in wide-calf varieties, so if you have wide calves don’t fret. There are plenty of styles that offer this size option.

Knee high boots also come in several styles and colors like black, tan, white, and many snakeskin varieties.

Knee High Boots Fit Tip: For the best fit, aim to have between 1″and -1.5″ between the top of your boot and your kneecap!

A bodycon or sweater dress with knee high boots is great for a more modern look. Choose which fit matches your personal style and pair them with comfortable boots for the perfect outfit.

These 2 combos would also look great with boots that have a skinny heel.

FAQs

Can you wear wide-leg jeans with knee high boots?

You should avoid wearing wide-leg jeans with knee high boots. Tucking wide leg jeans into boots doesn’t make sense and there is no point of wearing such a high boot underneath your jeans.

Can I wear knee high boots with leggings?

Heck yeah! Knee high boots look amazing with leggings. One thing to keep in mind is balance. Since leggings are typically very fitted/tight you’ll want to balance that out with something like an oversized or flowy top.

How can I wear knee high boots without looking trashy?

As long as you’re not wearing a skintight mini dress with thigh-high boots, you’ll be ok. As mentioned above, being mindful of balance is important.

However, if you’re looking for one of the most modest ways to style your knee high boots it would definitely be with jeans and a blouse/sweater.

Can I wear knee high boots in summer?

Sure! Throw on a cute pair of knee high boots with your favorite denim shorts and a chic blazer for a sexy date night outfit, or pair with a dress/jeans for a cool summer night.

Can you wear knee high boots without tights?

Totally! I almost never wear tights with my knee high boots. There are some exceptions of course depending on the occasion, but in general, there is no rule that you must wear tights with knee high boots.

Conclusion

Whether it’s an outfit for everyday wear or a more casual look, there are many different outfits you can put together with knee high boots. Just remember that balance is key!
